Before you decide to add this job to your collection perhaps you will be interested in some of the results obtained from the preceding designs. All were built around the Dooling engine. The first was an ignition job which was very easy to handle and always turned in plus 110 mph, a better-than-average speed at the time. Fuel mixture was 2 1/2 to 1 alcohol and castor oil, turning the engine between 13,000 and 14,000 rpm, depending upon the props used. These ranged from 9 in. diameter with 9 in. pitch. to 14 in. pitch. When glow plugs became available the 132.4 mph figure was achieved. The lack of a coil, condenser and batteries were naturally responsible for the additional speed. Generally speaking, we have found ignition equipped models less tricky to fly in all-around weather but our fastest times have been with glow plug jobs. The original model weighs two pounds eight ounces with ignition, six ounces less with glow plug.
