A lean, little bird, the only kind to have when the competition is climbing up your back Note trailing edge stock for a trim tab on the right wing. Shave away or add to it, but it stays in trim better than a warp.
The "Time Machine" Since Young Don returned to the contest scene after a few years' layoff, things have gotten a lot tougher for us. One .reason, besides Young Don's considerable competitive skill, is his design philosophy. He sticks with things that work rather than overly concerning himself with theoretical trivia. He is much less interested in starting new trends than he is in winning-the result is straight-forward designs of which the "Time Machine" is a glowing example. This design follows most of the latest popular trends: aft rudder, parabolic wing and tail, low pylon, geodetic "birdcage" construction, remote detherrnalizer, and light weight, combined with moderate (300 sq. in.) wing area. The climb is not the fastest and the glide is not the slowest, but the blend is deadly. A multiple national record holder as a junior and a senior, Don, now 23, has lots of fresh techniques and ideas you will find interesting. He is too busy designing, building and flying in preparation for the Nationals to mess with writing this text, so my translation of his thoughts on construction and trimming
Will have to suffice.
