The design is an accumulation of several high and low thrust features that complement each other quite nicely. The trendy rear fin has a "Dixielander" heritage. The flat center-section wing with swept tips is characteristic of designs (particularly those of Dick Mathis) coming out of the Southwest in the last few years, combining ease of construction and strength. The low thrust line was used because of Mike's belief that- low thrust designs tend to glide better than high thrust versions. This belief was substantiated by his experience at the '73 West Coast Free-Flight Championships in California which saw low thrust designs walk all over the high thrusters, principally because of superior gliding characteristics.
