The model is the second steam scale model I have built recently. The Uganda is built to a scale of 1/164. This may seem rather an odd scale but with steam models one must conform to the power unit available and above all, not end up with a model which needs a pair of pram-wheels to transport it. Length of the finished model is 40in and the beam 5-3/8in, this mounted on its base-board will fit comfortably into the boot of my car without damage.
THE S.S. Uganda was built at Barclay and Curles yard, Glasgow in 1952, as a cargo-passenger vessel for British India Steam Navigation Company Limited. Later she was partially reconstructed as a passenger cruise liner and operates for B. I. as a vessel of the P. and 0. Group. She is, I believe, the third vessel to carry this name. Her present tonnage is 17,000 tons at 540 feet length and 71 feet beam.
