Presents drawings and details for you to build a' model of this small coasting vessel
This is a good model for those who have built a kit or two and who .want to attempt scratch building. It includes every element of sailing ship construction without being too ambitious and so is a good transition from kits. It does, however, need some experience of plank-an-frame techniques and so is not suitable for an absolute beginner.
Frederick Henrik at Chapman was a Swedish shipwright With an English father who travelled around the shipyards of England, Holland and France between 1750 and 1757. A book containing his drawings, 'Architectura Navalis Mercaturia', was first published in Stockholm in 1768; it is currently available as a facsimile edition. Figure 11 on Plate L is a drawing of an 'English hoy or lighter'.
