Most of the airplanes I have seen flying in Slow Combat events seem rather sluggish, which is why I guess they call it that. However, a few local ships and several at the Nationals really stood out for being anything but slow. They turned tight. flew fast and usually won their matches They were the specials built from scratch, while the sluggish ones were usually modified from existing designs. So, upon returning to the Swamp after the Nats, it was decided that your Basic Fast Richard Design Procedure (B.F.R.D.P.) would be engaged in behalf of Slow Combat
This consisted of getting out the plans to Howard Rush's "Nemesis" fast Combat design and tracing the airfoil and wing dimensions off; changing the construction for simplicity’s sake; and giving it new wing tips so it would match what I had in mind for the rest of the airplane. Howard's plans happened to be around because I am working up a kit of the 'Nemesis." Suffice it to say, I think the basic wing is a good enough thing for my Slow Combat. It seems to be slippery yet maneuverable. and, although it loses some of its aerodynamic trueness without a planked leading edge.
