The "05 Ski Cruiser" was designed for the new 05 Electric Standard 7‑Cell Class adopted by the North American Model Boat Association for 1985. The hull requirements for this class are very simple, "Hull all boats will conform to either NAMBA Deep Vee or Monoplane specifications." Designing model deep vee and monoplane hulls is something I know a little about. It was simply a matter of deciding the type of hull I wanted to design.
Although I designed the basic hull of the "05 Ski Cruiser" without referring to photos of any particular full size boat, the deck and cabin are what might be termed "sorta scale of the Schiada 20‑foot "Ski Cruiser" The paint scheme for the model was based on a picture I saw of the Schiada "Ski Cruiser" in Powerboat magazine.
In designing the "05 Ski Cruiser," I at tempted to incorporate ideas that I had been using in other electric boats and improve areas where I felt some electric boats had problems. None of the boats I had run prior to building the "05 Ski Cruiser" had problems with basic hull design.
