O GAUGE
SAND CAR
LENGTH 10”
WIDTH 2 3/8”
By LONG VALLEY ELECTRIC RWY.
HERE is an easy project to occupy a rainy weekend for the model traction magnate. Interurban sand cars were a common sight on most electric railway properties, and two or three gondolas of this type should be a welcome addition to your model trolley empire. They were often seen carrying ballast or other company materials for right-of-way maintenance, but were equally useful for revenue service. As an example, the Hartford Street Railway advertised sand and gravel delivered in these cars to any point along their tracks.
This model is not an exact copy of a specific car, but rather is made to general dimensions representing a composite style. It does, however, have the appearance of an old Indiana R. R. gondola seen on a spur near Fort Wayne some years ago.
The wooden floor serves as the backbone, supporting the superstructure, running gear and coupler assemblies.
