The drawings reproduced here will appeal to the ship modeller of some experience, since they show the ship herself and do not include constructional detail. However, anyone who has built even one warship model will find Bismarck a reasonably straightforward job. Model length is 51 1/2 in. overall and beam 6 1/8 in., the scale being 1:192.

THE Bismarck, first ship of the Tirpitz class, was  projected under the Hitler Z plan, a plan which would have placed at the command of Grand Admiral Raeder fourteen battleships by 1944. The Tirpitz and the Bismarck were completed by 1940.

The Bismarck, having laid in waiting in the Baltic, sailed with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen for the Atlantic. An intercepting force comprising Britain's largest warship, H.M.S. Hood, and the new Prince of Wales, made contact with her. Due to poor visi bility and the fact that the silhouettes of both German ships were akin, H.M.S. Hood opened fire on the Prinz Eugen. The Bismarck made quick retort; due to accurate and powerful gunnery and the misfortune to the Hood of having her magazine hit. she was in minutes a complete wreck, leaving only three survivors
