It will be clear that the drawing is primarily intended for builders who have tackled one or two scale models previously, for whom construction would be straightforward. The subject of the drawing, Universal Star, is typical of the modern approach to inshore/near water trawlers, and has an attractive, rather pert, air. She has a double-chine hull — this form is being used on large middle and distant water craft, too — which makes hull construction rather lighter work, and has an enormous amount of room for an overall length of 261/2 ins. At 1/4 in. scale the detail work is handy in size and reasonably rugged; there is enough to get one's teeth into but not enough to be frightening.
