Presents drawings for a semi-scale balsa and plastic card US sternwheeler work and cargo boat
For a model that is a little different, why not try this U.S. stern-wheeler work and cargo boat which used to be in service on the Mississippi. The model is 41cm (16in.) in length and the hull is constructed from balsa wood, with plastic card being used for the superstructure. A small electric motor powers the paddle wheel via a reduction gear and cranked connecting rods. If you want to sail your model at night then the nine working lights shown on the model will illuminate your passage.
Construction (hull)
The hull is basically slab sided with the bow being built on the bread and butter method using layers of 9mm (3/8 3/8 in.) sheet balsa as shown in the photograph. Use a razor plane to shape the hull and sand to finish.
