THIS attractive 80 ft. personnel launch was built last year by Vosper Limited of Portsmouth as a fast transport for up to sixty passengers for Compania Shell de Venezuela. The design was specially developed and incorporates several unusual features such as the very high wheelhouse, which gives the helmsman maximum vision for the purpose of avoiding floating tree trunks, etc., which are among the normal hazards of Lake Maracaibo, on which the launch was built to operate. Construction is of welded metal throughout, steel in the hull and light alloys for the superstructure. Two Napier Deltic Diesel units provide a top speed in excess of 35 knots and, by means of a special Napier device, which brings reverse gear into instantaneous operation, the launch can stop from full speed ahead in under 200 ft., i.e., about two boat lengths! The design of the hull has been carefully carried out to provide a comfortable ride and is of first class form for model use.

Our model is based on the 46 in. original of Charlie Townsend. Full wood construction is shown on the drawing and should result in a very light and strong hull suitable for minimum power of a 31/2 c.c. diesel and maximum of 15 c.c. petrol
