In the model scaled 3/4 inch to the foot (Fig. 2), you can reproduce the medium-trajectory, short-range cannon as originally built with 6- segment metal tires nailed to the wheel fellies. With highly-machined brass, maple spokes and other parts of walnut, it will make an eye stopping display for your home or club.
Wheel Assembly. Begin construction by cutting six equilateral triangles out of 1 x 2 x 8 1/2-in. walnut stock. Set the miter gage on your circular saw at 60° as in Fig. 3A and flop the stock over after each cut so all segments can be made with the same setting
WHEN George Washington vanquished Lord Cornwallis at the Battle of Yorktown (Oct. 19, 1781) to win the Revolutionary War, one of the most prized types of British ordnance captured was this ornate 8-in. howitzer.
