The objective in designing and building this scale-type sail boat was fun and to that end it was one hundred percent successful. "Denise" was patterned along the lines of the popular full size single masted cruising yacht designs. Simplicity, good looks and foolproof operation were uppermost in my mind as the design progressed. The hull is the epitome of simplicity with no compound curves and therefore no plan king is necessary. Sheet balsa is used to cover the hull which makes construction quick and easy.
Denise is fitted with three operating channels: one to steer, a second to adjust the sail angle according to wind direction, and a third to start an electric motor in the event the craft is becalmed in the lake. The model can also be' operated on motor power alone With sails neatly furled on the booms. I used Aristo Craft Micro-Prop R/C equipment with a Dumas Probar sail control unit very successfully.
