THREE PAGES OF BUILDING NOTES
by Jack Sheeks
Many types and shapes of stunt ships have been flown and are still being flown. But primarily they are the same. That is to say the moment arms, airfoils, etc. are close to each other. Modellers have found they get good results with certain moments, so naturally they tend to stick close to these.
The "Shiek" is a combination of different ideas all being attempted at once, and fortunately they worked well together. The design features a "V" stab, four flap horn set up, an inverted gull wing that after descending downward, levels out again, an extra thin body, and a blunt airfoil with a rather small wing area.
With this minimal wing area we found the ship flew well at 40 ounces, but acted sluggish around the 46 ounce mark. It gave the outboard wing a slight dip in tight corners. To stop this we raised the leadout wires at the wing tip to the top of the tip. Sounds silly but it worked. The "V" stab had no ill effect at alt on the flying ability of the ship. If anything, it helped smooth out the hops after the tight corners.
